Make sure that you are not wearing wet clothing on your drive to the beach, either, and that you have the rain jacket and boots on your car as soon as you arrive.

Finally, if you have camping gear or other items in your car that are wet, you should take them out before you are going out in the rainy weather. It is best to bring them in the car as soon as possible, and put them in a sealed bag with a tarp underneath, so that they will stay dry. and protected until you are ready to take them out.
